This book is my attempt to write about the topics I cover in my Information Management course (see below for the Table of Contents). It’s less focused on technology and more focused on issues in the Information Age. Personally, I think this approach is more engaging–hopefully, someone, somewhere finds it useful.
From the back cover…
Information is produced and consumed at an exponential rate, and technology advances faster than we can comprehend. This book addresses what happens at the intersection of information, technology, and people. Indeed, it is the combination and convergence of these three key components that create entirely new dilemmas in the Information Age.
Exploring the Edges of the Information Age focuses on exploration and interaction. To that end, each chapter encourages readers to:
- Experiment online and record their thoughts throughout the process.
- Reflect on thought-provoking articles related to information and technology.
- Decide and defend an appropriate course of action for a hypothetical scenario.
Information and technology issues—privacy, security, literacy, access, censorship, property and others—affect individuals, organizations and society at large. Not surprisingly, solutions to these dilemmas are not clear. Exploring the Edges of the Information Age ultimately aims to create a space where readers can engage with these issues and draw their own conclusions.
